THE STEIGER® TRACTOR HISTORYA Proud Heritage of Power & Reliability
Nearly 40 years ago, during a cold North Dakota winter, the first STEIGER® tractor was built. Named after its inventors, that STEIGER tractor went on to rack up more than 10,000 hours of field time.*
The first STEIGER manufacturing facility was a dairy barn near Thief River Falls, Minnesota. By the late 1960s, the company was incorporated and moved into larger facilities in Fargo, North Dakota. Several moves and several years later, STEIGER tractor manufacturing arrived at its current Fargo location.
The distinctive lime-green STEIGER tractors supported big horsepower up to 525 hp and unique names, like Puma, Bearcat, Cougar, Panther, Lion and Tiger. Each denoted a specific horsepower class.
In 1986, STEIGER was acquired by JI Case, todays Case Corporation. To solidify the family, both companys 4WD tractor lines were unified in color and name.
The name STEIGER never lost its appeal nor its popularity. In a recent survey of farmers in 4WD tractor markets, this name was cited as the most popular and well-known 4WD name by far. It is fitting then, that this proud name returns once again to grace the Case IH 9300 Series tractors . . . the industrys leading line of 4WD tractors.
*You can see the original STEIGER tractor on display in the museum at Bonanzaville, USA, in West Fargo, North Dakota.
